Freedom-ministries

Freedom Ministries is a ministry of Lighthouse Baptist Church. The ministry was created to better organize the administrational details and finances the following three ministries under one umbrella ministry:

1) Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Facility Ministry - a monthly ministry where we go into the prison and preach God’s word, sing, and mingle with prisoners in an effort to challenge them to rethink their lives and live for the glory of God instead of being a slave to whatever it was that brought them into prison in the first place. This ministry is important because being in prison often brings a person to a point of sobriety, self-examination, and reflection. What better time than to communicate the love of God and the answer for every issue of life: the gospel. For more information on getting involved in this monthly ministry, please visit us and speak with one of the pastors or church leadership.

2) Herb Jamieson Homeless Shelter Ministry - The Herb Jamieson Centre is a homeless shelter located in downtown edmonton and is operated by Hope Mission. Hope Mission graciously allows other ministries and churches to come in and speak to the residents on a regular basis without any restrictions on the content of what those ministries speak. This affords us a great opportunity to come in monthly and present a clear gospel presentation and teach the residents that a meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ is the only answer for life’s issues. Jesus Christ had a special compassion for those who were sick of body and sick of mind and left to beg for a living in His day - two thousand years ago. He asks us to recognize that the effects of sin have grave consequences for all of humanity. Biblically, we are compelled to minister to the hurting - sharing the love of God without reserve. 3) Reformers Unanimous Addictions Recovery Program - Lighthouse Baptist Church has a heart for addicted people. For this reason, several years ago we began holding a Friday night meeting for addicted people through a ministry we had heard about in Rockford, Illinois called Reformer’s Unanimous. RU was started by a former drug addict who gave his life over to Jesus Christ and began getting involved in his local church. He had a burden for people who are trapped like he was and began developing a Bible Study curriculum to train them out of their addictions and into a relationship with Jesus Christ by faith. The demand for this material quickly grew as churches recognized an area of the population that we were generally failing to reach with the gospel.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In the Spring of 2011, God made it clear to us that we needed to put a hold on this ministry for a time. We had been looking for a leader for the program for over a year and with the ministry growing to beyond 40 regular attenders (and the church itself growing), the load of responsibility became too heavy for the small leadership team we have. We hope to be able to restart this ministry again in the future. But this does not mean our desire to help addicted people find freedom in Christ has lost any of its resolve. If you, or anyone you know is struggling with an addiction of any kind (from addictive behaviour issues to the chemically addictive drugs/alcohol, or anything in between) please come and visit us. We would love to get to know you and help you get back on the right track.
